BAT Brasil produces its own wood to supply its factory and plants
BAT Brasil is self-sustaining when it comes to wood, which is its main raw material in its factory. The company uses reforested wood from its three eucalypt farms, in Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Wood, itself, is already a sustainable action: it is a renewable source of energy and does not contribute to greenhouse effect.
Whenever BAT Brasil needs to buy wood from third parties, it does a deep dive into the other company’s sustainable actions, social and environmental. BAT Brasil does not buy wood from companies which are suspect of exploiting child labour.
BAT Brasil initiatives go beyond: the company had its operations certificated by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a non-governmental organization, created to promote responsible forest management all over the world.
In 2006, BAT Brasil received from FSC the Green seal, that certifies company’s good forest management, by adopting best environmental practices, respecting the communities and labour relations.
